Tal vez uno de los primeros blogs que empecé a leer es el Jason Kotke, quien tiene una habilidad para ver y comentar lo que a los demás se nos salta. En el link me dice algo muy importante: prestar atención con los ojos de un niño y la mente de un principiante.
Atención y tiempo es lo único que en realidad tenemos. A que y cómo se lo dedicamos define lo que somos.
Llego tarde a la semana del vienes 25 de Enero. mejor que nunca, no? Austin Kleon cita a Thoreau, “Ideas,-are they the fishes of thought?”. Ciertamente, algunas son como sardinas, abundantes pero pequeñas mientras otras son como un tiburón, grandes, peligrosas, difíciles de atrapar. Pesca de profundidad, de alta mar, de cultivo. Como cuida uno el océano donde nadan las ideas que son como peces?
Tic-tac. Pasa otra semana y llegamos a Febrero, febrerillo el loco, como le decía aquel gran periodista venezolano, Cuto Lamache. De todos los sitios insospechados -y este es particularmente inhóspito- me encuentro un agradable artículo en Linkedin. Va y viene por los caminos de la innovación ( se estudia, pero como los forenses. Después de suceder. No se predice ni se receta) y en algún momento me deja una reflexión larga pero interesante

But if you make poor choices about how to invest your resources, the outcome can be bad. When people who have a high need for achievement have an extra half hour of time or an extra ounce of energy, they often unconsciously allocate it to activities that yield the most tangible accomplishments. And our careers provide the most concrete evidence that we’re moving forward. You ship a product, finish a design, complete a presentation, close a sale, get paid or promoted. In contrast, investing time and energy in your relationship with your friends and family typically doesn’t offer that same immediate sense of achievement. Kids, for instance, misbehave every day, and it’s not until 20 odd years later that you can say, “I raised a good kid.” You can neglect your relationship with your spouse, and on a day-to-day basis, it doesn’t seem as if things are deteriorating. People who are driven to excel have this unconscious propensity to underinvest in their families and overinvest in their careers — even though intimate and loving relationships with their families are the most powerful and enduring source of happiness.

We talk about ethical and sustainable development. We talk about how we can be ethical with robots and machines. We want to solve death. And there’s so much human suffering. We haven’t figured out life yet.Empiezo a creer que el mundo se divide en los que logran mal que bien emigrar (me incluyo), los poquísimos que no necesitan emigrar y una gran mayoría, ciertamente oprimida. end of the road
Today, for no particular reason I purged the remains of my PhD work from this site and everywhere else. One of the few things that I didn’t finish. Suffice to say that I discovered earlier that it was not for me. I insisted for one more year and in the end, I parted ways
What did I learn there?
Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.

Upon entering any organization, there is a contract. Mine with UIW includes social justice and community service.
No one grows without the fertile ground of good friends. I am here because of you, for you and by you.
This is my moment: I want to learn without prejudice or bias. I want to seek understanding in reason.
There are good, not so good and bad courses. The outcome depends on me.
It is imperfect and at times confusing, but only ethics will keep you going.
One theme flows from one course to the other: we must, concern ourselves with the others, those that are at time invisibles and only part of a number: the poor, the less favored, the just arrived immigrant.
It is not the only, it’s not perfect but it’s the answer: education.
It is imperative to me: re-organize my learning, deepen my interests and improve my written expression.
Sense-making is really difficult. Only by continuos reflection I can make sense from my experiences.
It is not (only) the vanity of adding those 3 letters (PhD) to your name. What is important is the social responsibility that I will acquire once I graduate

Things learned and questions begging and answer
This election cycle is over. In a few weeks, we’ll have a new President.
Did you like the campaign? If not: please give a few minutes to this:- We have a racism problem. Maybe we can’t or won’t see it, but it is there.
- Do you really think that Citizens United is a good idea?
- At our own peril, we leave politics to politicians. A disengaged population is weak.
- Render unto Cesar… Religion and Politics don’t mix well. Is the “evangelical right” a valid proposition?
- Now we have a sizable part of the country unable to hold a decent discussion while consuming conspiracy theories for breakfast and defamatory “news” for lunch. Our educational system is falling.
Would you help me to figure this out?

In the end, we exercised our right and privilege to vote.
We decided to elect the weakest president in memory. Compared to Trump, Bush the lesser is a statesman.
We will pay a steep price for putting an unqualified clown in the highest office of the land.
Yet, we will recover.
I hope the Republicans put competent people to serve with President Trump and he does well.
As someone close to me put it brilliantly today, our task is to redouble our advocacy efforts to educate people.

Caramba, se nos fue Zapata… A destiempo y cuando mas falta hace. El Zapata del Sadico Ilustrado, el profeta del desastre, caricaturista, artista. Por allí me queda mi copia de Las Celestailes con sus primeras caricaturas. La satisfacción de haber disfrutado por años sus caricaturas a primera hora de la mañana… Aun recuerdo aquella fulminante del Cochitigre.
Siempre he pensado que en lugar de tanto curso pendejo, debería poner como credencial el haber estudiado en la Cátedra de Humor Libre con Zapata… Lástima que no daban diploma!
Habría que imitar a Laureano aquella noche del mitin en el Aula Magna ( no meta la pata, vote por Zapata!) y decir con acento de Papa polaco
